Police officers have successfully repelled an attack by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants in Malari village, Konduga Local Government Area (LGA), Borno state.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nahum Daso, revealed via a statement that the incident took place around 1 a.m on Wednesday, November 27, when a police special unit stationed at a forward operating base in Malari engaged the terrorists in a firefight.
The statement read, “The police crack team foiled and repelled the attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
“In the ensuing gun battle, the terrorists were forced to retreat into the bush with bullet injuries.”
Daso stated that a thorough on-site evaluation showed the terrorists had placed an unexploded grenade inside an abandoned Toyota Hilux, which belonged to a vigilante group.
He further stated that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) team thoroughly scanned the area, removed the grenade and rendered it safe.
The state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Mohammed Yusufu, praised the efforts of the elite team and the EOD-CBRN unit from Base 13 in Maiduguri.
He assured the public that the command remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of communities as they return to their ancestral homes.
The PPRO finally encouraged residents to stay calm and alert, urging them to report any suspicious objects or activities to the police.
