President Biden tests negative for COVID-19, ends strict isolation

President Joe Biden on Wednesday, July 27 tested negative twice for COVID-19, ending his isolation six days after testing positive.

Recall that the United States President, Joe Biden on Thursday, July 21 tested positive for Covid-19 and was in isolation at the White House.

The president remains “fever-free,” Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor wrote in a letter Wednesday, and his symptoms are steadily improving, and are almost completely resolved.

He said Biden tested negative for COVID-19 Tuesday night and again Wednesday morning, according to US News.

“Given these reassuring factors, the president will discontinue his strict isolation measures,” O’Connor said.

In a last-minute update to the White House schedule, Biden will deliver remarks from the Rose Garden at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Biden had continued to work, staying isolated in the White House until his negative test. Biden finished a five-day course of Paxlovid 36 hour sago, O’Connor said.

Guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say people who’ve tested positive can go out in public after five days if wearing a well-fitting mask, regardless of a test result.

The White House took the extra step of waiting until Biden received a negative result from an antigen test.

During his isolation, the White House provided daily updates of Biden’s condition.

Biden tested positive long after many top aides, Cabinet members, the vice president and even his chief medical adviser were infected by COVID.

Officials said they knew Biden might also test positive and had a plan ready to deal with that.

He was put on Paxlovid, an at-home antiviral therapy for those at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Biden, aged 79, was at risk because of his age.

Some people who have received Paxlovid have gotten rebound infections, which can happen as soon as a few days after testing negative.

In the small share of Paxlovid patients whose infections come back, they don’t get sick enough to require hospitalization, according to COVID-19 response coordinator, Dr. Ashish Jha.
