The presidential election tribunal, on Tuesday, May 9, adjourned the petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to Thursday, May 11.
The parties are challenging the emergence of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
The presiding judge, Justice Haruna Tsammani, stated that the petition filed by APM will be taken by 9 am, while the petition filed by PDP will be taken at 2 pm on Thursday.
After the parties and the respondents announced their appearances and adopted their replies during Tuesday’s proceedings, Justice Tsammani, directed them to identify major issues for consideration ahead of the hearing.
The judge asked the parties to also consider objections as well as issues to be determined for the court’s consideration.
Recall that the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, on March 1, declared the former Lagos state governor as the president-elect on the grounds that his party secured the majority of votes cast in the polls.
Tinubu polled 8.8 million votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 6.9 million, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) who amassed 6.1 million votes.
Atiku and Obi, however, filed separate petitions seeking orders to annul the election or declare them the winners of the polls.
