In an email statement, the prosecutors detailed the accusations against Promes. As of now, Promes’ lawyer has not responded to Reuters’ request for comment, and phone calls made to his office after business hours on Tuesday went unanswered. However, according to Dutch newspaper Het Parool, Promes’ lawyer mentioned that he would address the case during a pro forma hearing scheduled for Monday. Despite this, news agency ANP reports that Promes is not expected to be present at the hearing. Additionally, apart from the drug trafficking charges, Promes, a former player for Ajax Amsterdam and Sevilla, is also facing assault charges in the Netherlands. He was arrested in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred in the Dutch town of Abcoude in July 2020. Subsequent information revealed that the alleged victim was Promes’ cousin, and the altercation took place during a fight following a family gathering. Promes has vehemently denied any involvement in the incident. A hearing for this case is also slated for Monday.
