In response to allegations of homosexuality against two of its ministers, Ayorinde Bello and Oke Mayowa, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has suspended them pending a comprehensive investigation.

This decision was communicated in an internal memo dated October 28, 2024, signed by Pastor Sunday Akande, the RCCG National Overseer.

In the memo, Pastor Akande notified the church’s Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration about the temporary removal of the ministers from their responsibilities while the investigation is underway.

He emphasized the RCCG’s dedication to maintaining biblical principles throughout this process.

“Our mission is deeply rooted in the teachings of the Bible, and we must address these allegations with the seriousness they deserve,” he stated.

A blog has accused Ayorinde Bello, known as AY Bello, of enticing teenage boys within the church into homosexuality. The allegations suggest that Bello, along with Leke Adeboye (the son of the General Overseer) and several other prominent youth pastors, has negatively influenced male teenagers under their care, as reported by parents.

According to the blog, a 20-year-old male, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that while AY Bello is an effective leader who has positively impacted many young individuals, he has also led some astray into homosexuality.

The RCCG’s position on homosexuality is firmly based on biblical scriptures as Pastor Akande highlighted that adherence to these principles is central to the church’s mission.

To address the allegations, the RCCG National Overseer instructed the General Overseer’s Special Assistant to conduct a thorough investigation. He emphasized the need for confidentiality and respect for all parties involved and requested that the inquiry be completed within two weeks.

During this investigation, Pastor Akande mandated that Bello, Mayowa, and any others implicated temporarily refrain from participating in church activities. He clarified that this suspension is a precautionary measure until the investigation concludes.

“This is a matter of integrity and adherence to our values,” he affirmed.

This incident is not the first challenge the RCCG has faced regarding its adherence to doctrinal teachings.
