The mobile policemen, who were obviously operating illegally, shot at one Biola and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairmanship candidate for the local government, Muhammad Olaitan Efuwape, which escalated the already tense situation on election day.
Efuwape escaped unhurt, however Biola was hit by bullets, which shattered his leg.
The issue was immediately reported to the Department of State Service (DSS), the Inspector General of Police and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police in order to restore peace.
The Ogun State CP and the DSS Ogun State Command mobilised a joint operational team to head to Iperu and arrest the illegal officers.
The CP called up officers from MOPOL 16 and MOPOL 71 to assist with the arrest, along with DSS operatives from the Ogun State Command headquarters.
When the joint team arrived at the hideout of the policemen on illegal duty, they reportedly refused to stand down and instead confronted the joint team and opened fire on the DSS operatives.
