The political division in the Saraki family again became a topic of discussion on Saturday as Senator Gbemisola Saraki and a number of chieftains of the All Progressives Congress defected and declared for the Peoples Democratic Party.
Her brother, Bukola, a serving Senator had recently quit the PDP to join the APC.
Those who jumped ship with Sen Gbemi Saraki imclude Lola Ashiru, an APC chieftain in Offa, Pince Sunday Fagbemi, as well as Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the governorship candidate of the CPC in the 2011 elections.
While expressing concern about the increasing rate of unemployment among youths, Saraki called on people of Kwara State to join hands with the PDP “to rescue the state from the shackle of oppression.” She also urged them to support President Goodluck Jonathan
It will be recalled that Senator Gbemi Saraki and her brother found themselves in opposing camps just before the last general elections. Bukola Saraki’s defection would have reunited them politically but with Gbemi’s latest move, the status quo has been maintained.
