Security officials in Imo arrest man who hid in bank’s toilet to hack computer system

An unusual security breach occurred in Imo State, where a man concealed himself in a bank’s ceiling overnight to hack its computer system.

According to an X user who shared details, the unidentified man entered the bank during business hours, posing as a regular customer.

He reportedly slipped into the toilet, climbed into the ceiling, and remained hidden until staff departed for the day.

The following morning, bank employees discovered the toilet door locked from the inside, upon forcing it open, they located the man in the ceiling.

When the bank’s computer systems were activated, they reportedly displayed a message: ‘Restarting. Click OK to accept,’ indicating an attempted system compromise.

The viral video shows security operatives apprehending and physically assaulting the man after being alerted to the situation.

Reacting to the video, the  spokesperson for the Nigeria police force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi  condemned the officers’ conduct, stating, “Unprofessional conduct. Too many indecent acts were spotted in the video. We will look into it holistically.”

The incident has sparked public debate regarding the vulnerability of financial institutions to physical breaches and the appropriate treatment of suspects.

Social media users also voiced their opinions:

@RitzyMoi questioned the suspect’s actions and the bank’s security: “This boy must have been very high on something, otherwise why lock himself in? Why no wait till bank returns to work and he gets himself out the way he entered? And for all the security in that branch, how can someone be inside the bank through the night and you are not aware?”

@Nithsmith linked the incident to broader socio-economic issues: “Nobody will be safe in Nigeria because of hunger soon if Nigerians don’t vote out the APC.”

@breokwaraji criticized the police’s unprofessionalism: “Police, your men are so unprofessional. What is the difference between their actions here and what obtains when a thief is caught in a market square? I think if this didn’t happen in a corporate environment, they would have launched the criminal.”
