Personnel of a private pipeline surveillance contractor to the NPDC/Splat Joint Venture, Abicity Security, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Army stationed at Ubagboro community along the Amokpe Escravos Pipeline in the creeks of Delta state have intercepted boats laden with illegal crude oil.
A source disclosed that serious efforts by the security operatives, following intelligence gathered on the illegal operation of the oil bunkerers, yielded the timely interception of the locally made boats, popularly called ‘Cotonou Boats’ laden with the stolen crude oil, opposite the Koko River, on Monday evening.
The source claimed that security men intercepted the suspected oil thiefs as they were moving out of the location where the illegal operation was carried out, around Kilometre 42, in Amokpe Escravos Pipeline.
The source explained that as the syndicate in the crude-laden boats sighted the security patrol, took covers in the creeks, leaving thier boats and the contraband crude behind.
He said that the military operatives set afire the crude-laden boats.
He assured the NPDC/Seplat JV that with adequate collaboration and support, the menage oil theft in the country would be a thing of the past.
