The Senate has confirmed Emomotimi Agama as the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC.
Additionally, the Senate confirmed other SEC appointments, including Frank Chukwuogor as Executive Commissioner for Legal and Enforcement, Abimbola Ajomale as Executive Commissioner for Operations, and Samiya Usman as Executive Commissioner for Corporate Services.
The Red Chamber confirmed the appointments following the presentation of a report by the chairman of the Senate Committee on Capital Markets, Osita Izunaso.
According to Izunaso, the senator representing Imo West, the nominees met the requirements for appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
“That they were eminently qualified for the positions. They passed all security checks and answered relevant questions during the screening,” Izunaso said.
Following his presentation, the Senate voted and confirmed the nominees.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin urged the appointees to perform their duties diligently for the betterment of the country.
“They should do their work in the best way they can to turn around the economy of Nigeria,” he said.
“They should try not to let Mr President down or the nation. They should do their best to use that institution to promote the well-being of this country.”
Before his appointment, Agama served as Managing Director at the Nigerian Capital Market Institute, NCMI, a subsidiary of the SEC.
Agama brings extensive knowledge and expertise to the SEC, having held various positions including Head of Registration Exchanges and Market Infrastructure, and Head of Public Offerings, where he oversaw fundraising activities for numerous companies.
He also served as the Special Assistant to the Commission’s Executive Commissioner for Operations for eight years. During this period, Agama provided advice on issues related to securities and investment services, fixed-income securities, collective investment services, financial standards, and corporate governance.
