The Senate on Tuesday, March 19, confirmed Gbenga Alade as the Managing Director of the Assets Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON.
The Head of Corporate Communications Department of AMCON, Jude Nwauzor, announced this in a statement, saying that three other executive directors of the agency were also confirmed by the Senate.
Those confirmed as executive directors include, Adeshola Lamidi, Lucky Adaghe and Dr Aminu Mukhtar Dan’amu.
The confirmation of these nominees appointed by President Bola Tinubu was sequel to the consideration of a report by the Chairman of Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East.
Recall that President Tinubu had in February requested the Senate to confirm these nominees.
Abiru, while presenting the report, assured that the nominees had undergone proper screening and were found competent to serve as in their respective positions.
According to him, the nominees have complied with the Code of Conduct rules and no petition was raised in objection to their nomination.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, had in February announced the appointments in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new AMCON management team’.
According to Ngelale, the President expects unflagging dedication, professionalism, and dutifulness from the new appointees to ensure that the operations of AMCON are more efficient, transparent, and in consonance with his determination to sanitize the nation’s financial system to maximise value and enhance investor confidence in the Nigerian economy.
Nwauzor, speaking on their confirmation, stated that the final confirmation at the plenary came after the screening exercise by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, chaired by Senator Tokunbo Abiru.
He said that the lawmaker informed the Senate that the nominees were subjected to screening in line with parliamentary rules and were found competent to serve as directors of AMCON.
According to Nwauzor, they all have ‘the job’ experience, saying in the statement that, “Just as the nominees also complied with the Code of Conduct rules. Most importantly, Abiru added that no petition was raised in objection to their nomination”.
“The plenary, which was presided by the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, dissolved into the ‘Committee of the Whole’ to consider each nominee based on their merit, after which they were confirmed through voice vote,” he concluded.
