The Senate has approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff, COAS.
The confirmation, which took place on Tuesday, came after the review of a report presented by Senator Yar’adu Abdulaziz Musa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, representing Katsina Central.
The upper legislative chamber unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendations.
It will be recalled that the House of Representatives earlier approved Lieutenant-General Oluyede as the substantive COAS.
This decision followed his screening by the Joint Committees on Defence and Army.
Babajimi Benson, the Chairman of the committee, presented the report during the plenary session, recommending Oluyede’s confirmation.
His recommendation was adopted by the House during a session chaired by Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.
Lieutenant-General Oluyede had been serving as the acting Chief of Army Staff following the illness and eventual passing of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
