Shaun King has taken to Instagram to support Nigerian artist Kingsley Ayogu’s painting of Malcolm X.
Known for his hyperrealist paintings, Kingsley Ayogu takes art and reality to a whole new level, creating lifelike pieces that pay the most attention to detail.
His latest series, Icons In The White House, which includes a painting of Malcolm X in the white house, has gained international popularity with celebrities like Shaun King and platforms like Complex sharing the painting on their platforms.

Icons In The White House is a visual representation of Ayogu’s imagination. Describing his work, he says, “Icons in the White House is a series of paintings where I imagine important cultural and political icons who have influenced me as POTUS.”
Reposting on his Instagram, Shaun King wrote, “My friend and brother, @ayogu.kingsley is so brilliant. I’ve been watching him paint this picture of our dear brother Malcolm X for this past year. It’s one of my favourites of all time. Can you see where Malcolm is?”
Malcolm X is only one of the political and civil figures featured in Icons In The White House. The series also includes paintings of Thomas Sankara and Basquiat.
Speaking in an exclusive to Guardian Life, Kingsley Ayogu said, “This series is a work in progress where I imagine Black icons as POTUS. I think we have limited ourselves as Back people.”
“Throughout history because of the power of images and media. I want t do my part in correcting that history. It is also a great honour to be showing with artists I have always admired in the talented Johnson Eziefula and the giant in Zanele Muholi. I am also grateful to have the opportunity to work with one of the most important curators working today in Azu Nwagbogu. Just My Imagination will be on show till January 2022, and I hope that the exhibition gets the visibility it deserves,” he continued.
