Suspected herdsmen invaded Tse Ngojov and Tse Valem Yaweh in Mbagum communities, Tombo council ward in Logo Local Government Area of the Benue state, killing six people and injuring three others.
The killing is coming barely a week after the state government inaugurated its security outfit, the Volunteer Community Guards.
One of the residents identified as Terhemen said, “On August 10, 2022, at about 9:00pm, armed Fulani herdsmen attacked Tse Ngojov and Tse Valem Yaweh in Mbagum community Tombo council ward, Logo LGA.
A source identified the deceased as Ander John, Vihior Mtomga, Morgan Varem, Saaior Uyoosu, Aondoyima Tarbo and Peter Asondo.
The injured ones were identified as Terngu Tyavkase Usue, Igbaule Valem and Chiater Tarbo (a.k.a Ajimmy), according to Punch News.
Confirming the killing, the Security Adviser to the governor, Lt Col Paul Hemba (retd) said that the council boss had informed him about the incident.
“It is true, the council chairman briefed me which I have relayed to the governor and the governor has directed that the deceased be buried while the injured ones be evacuated to University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi,” he said.
However, the Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, acknowledged the incident but claimed he was still waiting for more information.
