Six students of Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Salihu Dogo, in Jalingo, Taraba state, have been expelled following a protest staged by pupils against the school management over alleged corruption exactly a week ago.
The protest was staged in front of the school principal’s office, and was said to have taken place on Wednesday, June 15, according to reports.
In a viral video, one of the students could be heard saying that they do not have a laboratory for science classes, and that the teachers never conduct a practical test for them.
”The science class does not even have a laboratory. We have never taken any practical in the science class,” a student said.
“There are no laboratories for science subjects like biology, physics, and chemistry.
“Moreso, there are no seats in our classrooms. You would have to stand while writing.
“How would you even listen to what the teachers are saying? You cannot understand one thing.”
According to reports, the school was said to have a population of about 1,000 students, and their school fees per term is N4,800, out of which N1,000 is allocated for furniture and feeding expenses.
The Taraba state government is yet to comment on this development as of the time of filing this report.
