The donors with officials of the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind and trainees The Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB), has lauded Guinness Staff, Lagos Chapter, Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, Adams College and others, for putting smiles on its visually impaired persons through provision of food, clothes and cash donations. Executive Secretary, FNSB, Mr. Oluwamayowa Oke, who lauded the groups at Vocational Training Centre (VTC), Oshodi in Lagos, said the donations have given hope to its trainees. According to him, the donations, which include; food stuffs, drinks, snacks and clothes have lifted the trainees and aided their academic and vocational education. Appreciating Guinness Staff members and other stakeholders for their gestures, Oke said: “Federal Nigeria Society for Blind seeks to reduce inequalities caused by all forms of disabilities by creating a world class model for breaking down barriers affecting the blind. “Our advocacy and awareness efforts are in line with Sustainable Development Goal 10- Reduced Inequalities.” Speaking on behalf of the visually impaired students, Mr. Frank Ezeh, thanked the proprietor of Adams College, Mr. Adams Adebola, and other stakeholders for supporting them despite the current cash crunch. A representative of the donors, Mr. Rotimi Odusola from Guinness staff, said the donations are aimed at alleviating the plight of the visually impaired students. According to him, the donors, through a concept, tagged: “Create A Smile”, spent time and had one -on- one with visually impaired trainees. The acting Principal of FNSB –VTC, Mr. Joseph Oladokun, also thanked the donors for coming to spend quality time with the trainees. On the activities of the society, Mr. Oladokun said: “The Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind is committed to empowering and promoting the social, economic and political inclusion of visually impaired persons. “Our rehabilitation programme ensures that the students are once again useful to themselves and the society. “Our school runs a one or two years residential programme where we teach them Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and assistive technology, vocational skills, personality development, daily living skills /hospitality management, Braille reading and writing, orientation and mobility, music and use of libraries, among others. “We assist our students to use the white cane effectively and to accomplish his/her daily tasks with ease.
