A story building located at 34 Oloto Street by Borno Way, off Freeman Street, Oyingbo, Lagos State, collapsed on Thursday, November 16.
It was gathered that the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, killed a woman in her 80s.
According to a report, emergency responders disclosed that an internal suspended beam in a room collapsed due to aging and lack of maintenance of the structure.
The Permanent Secretary, of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed the casualty, stating that no record of further injury in the incident has been recorded.
According to Oke-Osanyitolu, the agency received distress calls at about 8:30 am and the rescue team arrived at about 8:42 am.
“The Agency responded to distress calls concerning the above and upon arrival
discovered a story building in a state of partial collapse.
“Further information gathered at the incident scene revealed that an internal suspended beam in a room collapsed at about 7:45 am due to the aging and lack of maintenance of the structure.
“Unfortunately, an old woman died from the impact of the partial collapse”, he said.
Meanwhile, an unidentified number of construction workers were trapped under the rubble of a seven-story building that collapsed at First Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi area of Lagos.
The building was unapproved and collapsed when casting was being done.
Mukaila Sanusi, Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State government, comfier medical the incident and said a few, who sustained injuries are being treated.
He further assured the public that there was no fatality.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins, came immediately to the site to assess the situation and flag off the investigation.
