Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, was cleared to return home from Germany on Saturday, January 24, following the intervention of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
The announcement was made by his spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, stating that Igboho is no longer on the government’s wanted list.
“With the support of our royal father, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Dr. Chief Sunday Adeyemo is now free to return home.
“He is a free man and will soon be back in Ibadan,” he said.
Igboho fled Nigeria on July 1st, 2021, after his Soka residence in Ibadan was raided by the Department of State Services (DSS).
He was subsequently arrested on July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) at Cardinal Bernardin Gantin International Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic, while attempting to travel to Germany.
After regaining his freedom on October 8th, 2023, he flew to Germany to join his family.
He had appealed to President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2025 to remove his name from the wanted list, insisting he is not a criminal and should not be treated as one.
He lamented that the previous administration under late President Muhammadu Buhari had declared him wanted for an undisclosed offense, which prevented him from using his Nigerian passport and accessing his bank accounts despite favourable court judgments.
