The supreme court has fixed Tuesday, May 9, for judgment in the appeal filed by the immediate past governor of Osun state, Gboyega Oyetola, against Ademola Adeleke, incumbent governor of the state.
A five-member panel of the supreme court announced the date after taking arguments from lawyers of both parties on Monday, May 8.
Oyetola is seeking the reversal of the judgment of the court of appeal, Abuja, which affirmed Adeleke’s victory in the Osun governorship election which took place on July 16, 2022.
The appeal court, in its judgement, set aside an earlier judgment by the Osun governorship election petition tribunal, which removed Ademola Adeleke as the governor of the state.
It is pertinent to note that Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared winner of the governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after defeating his major rival, Oyetola, and 13 other candidates.
While Adeleke got 403,371 votes, Oyetola secured 375,027 votes and won in 13 local government areas of the state.
