Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has formally completed his registration as a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, marking a key step in his transition to the ruling party.
The registration took place on Sunday at the Government House in Jalingo, where officials of the APC Hospital Ward processed his membership.
After receiving his party card, the governor explained that although he had earlier postponed his official defection ceremony, he deemed it necessary to complete the ward-level registration to enable him to actively participate in party affairs within the state.
“I have already written to the party at the ward level, and today’s exercise is a necessary step to fulfil the basic requirements. You will recall that I earlier suspended my official reception into the party following the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
“Even if the official ceremony had been held, this registration is one of the necessary things we must do. I want to thank my ward party executives and the representatives of the state working committee of the party who are here,” he said.
Kefas noted that the postponement of his public reception, initially scheduled for November 19, was done in solidarity with the abducted schoolgirls. He added that completing the registration would allow him to fully assume leadership responsibilities within the party structure in Taraba State.
According to the governor, his decision to align with the APC was taken in the broader interest of governance and political stability in the state. He expressed confidence that the move would enhance collaboration and strengthen the party’s presence across Taraba.
He further disclosed that a new date for his official reception into the party would be announced in due course.
The governor’s registration comes against the backdrop of significant political realignments in Taraba State, as key political figures reposition ahead of future elections. Recently, several members of the State Executive Council, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Izito Benzena, and 14 lawmakers of the Taraba State House of Assembly defected to the APC.
