The Taraba state government has ordered the immediate deboarding of students in all public and private secondary schools, following heightened security concerns across parts of northern Nigeria.
The order, issued on Friday, November 21, comes in response to a security assessment prompted by recent attacks on boarding schools in Kebbi and Niger states.
Sources involved in the review said that boarding students were identified as some of the most vulnerable groups amid the ongoing insecurity.
Governor Agbu Kefas approved the directive as a temporary transition from boarding to day school learning throughout the state.
In a statement, commissioner for information and re orientation, Zainab Usman, said school principals and proprietors have been instructed to begin the deboarding exercise at once and inform parents and guardians of the changes.
While acknowledging the inconvenience the decision may cause, Usman stressed that the government’s priority is to ensure the safety of students as security agencies intensify broader efforts across the country.
“This directive is a protective measure taken in the best interest of every child in Taraba State,” she said.
With this move, Taraba joins a growing number of states quietly reassessing boarding-school operations as attacks on learning institutions resurface in northern Nigeria.
Security experts noted that more states could implement similar steps if intelligence alerts continue.
