The Niger State Police Command, on Monday, May 16, announced that bandits’ attack on Munya, Shiroro and Paikoro Local Government Areas of Niger state was foiled on Sunday.
The state’s police spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the attack was prevented by the police and a joint task group that included the Nigerian Army, NSCDC, and SSS.
Numerous bandits escaped with gunshot wounds, he said, while the crew recaptured several cattle.
Mr Abiodun added that the police received information that suspected armed bandits had been spotted in Munya LGA’s Zazagha and Injita villages, People’s Gazette reports.
Tactical security teams were immediately drafted to the area and discovered that the bandits had divided themselves into different groups and local government areas, according to Mr. Abiodun.
He said, “The tactical teams advanced to the areas where the bandits were fiercely engaged in a gun battle and repelled.
“The bandits later extended to Gwalo village, Paikoro LGA and the joint team responded swiftly, with the recovery of cattle from them”
Mr Abiodun added that reinforcements were sent to Mutun-Daya village via Gwada, Shiroro LGA upon receiving information that another group was sighted in the area.
“The bandits were equally engaged in a gun duel and some of them were neutralised, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot injuries,” he stated.
