A 19-year-old teenager, Nafi’u Sulaiman, has been arrested by the Kano state Police Command for allegedly faking his kidnap in order to gain ransom reward from his uncle.
This was made known by the State Commissioner of Police, CP. Mohammed Usaini Gumel.
The police boss explained that the command on Friday, at about 5:30pm received an information from a resident `of Garindau Village, Warawa LGA, Kano, that he got a phone call from an unknown person that his 19-year-old son, Nafi’u Sulaiman was kidnapped and a ransom was demanded for his release.
The CP said that upon this, a ransom of three hundred and sixty-five thousand naira (N365,000) was agreed on after much negotiation.
The police boss revealed that, in the course of investigation, the victim confessed to having singlehandedly framed his own kidnap for money from an unsuspecting uncle.
The CP said that, “The case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.”
He restated his commitment to rid the state of all forms of criminality.
