Terrorists attacked a border checkpoint in Kebbi state on Thursday, killing three immigration officers.

The terrorists suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group targeted the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) post in Bakin Ruwa, located along the Maje border within Bagudo local government area.

They stormed the checkpoint without warning and opened fire on officers conducting routine border duties, killing all three instantly.

They also set fire to the immigration service’s operational vehicle and burned down the checkpoint shelter before escaping into nearby bushes.

The attack has intensified fears among residents of border communities already facing heightened insecurity across the state.

The Kebbi state police command spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident but said details of the attack remained sketchy as investigations continue.
