Terrorists who kidnapped 38 worshippers from the Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, in Eruku, located in the Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, have demanded a ransom of N100 million per victim.
The abductors were said to have begun reaching out to families of those taken during the Tuesday, November 18 church service.
A community leader, the Olori Eta of Eruku, Chief Olusegun Olukotun, confirmed the development on Thursday. He disclosed that four members of his family were among those seized.
Olukotun explained that he had been in the church with five relatives when the attack occurred, but managed to escape with one of his wards at about 6:06 p.m. by fleeing through a window.
He said the terrorists have since made contact with some residents of the community, placing a ransom of N100 million on each of the 38 abductees.
“From what we gathered from the kidnappers camp, they (kidnappers) have grouped the victims according to their relations and are now calling our people through each of the group.
“Some people in the community have received calls from the kidnappers demanding N100m for each person but as regard my own people I have not receive any call concerning them, so I am still waiting,” he said.
The community leader expressed appreciation to the state government and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRahman for extending support to the affected town, while appealing for additional security reinforcements in Eruku due to its border location.
He also urged authorities to strengthen the local vigilante network with better and more advanced weapons to enable them confront armed attackers effectively.
