Terrorists kidnap 55 wedding guests in Katsina, leaving 3 dead

    At least 55 wedding guests, escorting a bride home in Damari town, Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, have been kidnapped by suspected terrorists.

    It was gathered that the incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 1.

    According to a source, the victims who are largely friends of the bride, were traveling in an open van known as a canter vehicle when the assailants attacked.

    The attackers targeted the crowded vehicle, resulting in the abduction of over 70 individuals, with some who managed to escape by jumping off the moving van during the hijacking.

    However, three local security volunteers lost their lives in the hastily organized rescue mission to free the victims.

    The area of Sabuwa has been struggling with security challenges, plagued by the presence of terrorists and their informants.

    Meanwhile, the Chairman of Dandume Local Government Area confirmed the incident, stating that there are unconfirmed reports of a few kidnapped women escaping, the chairman pledged to verify and provide updates.

    “The kidnapped women, originally from Dandume, were intercepted by the bandits on their way from Sabuwa Local Government Area around 9 pm”, the chairman said.

    Sabuwa and Dandume are among the local government areas heavily affected by banditry in the state.

    In another incident, gunmen from the Siddi forest reportedly infiltrated Tashar Nadaya, near the Gazari district border in Sabuwa LG.

    The criminals killed a commercial motorcycle rider and seized his bike, also opened fire on a group of four individuals, confiscating their motorcycles.
