Terrorists suspected to be Boko Haram on Sunday, September 1, killed 34 worshippers in Mafa village, located in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
It was learned that the attack took place during Maghrib prayer, with the gunmen opening fire randomly on the congregation. The terrorists cruelly rigged the corpses with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), creating a deadly trap for any first responders or security personnel who might approach the area.
The terrorists planted numerous explosives along the road to the village with the aim of targeting military vehicles.
Intelligence sources revealed that the attack was probably a retaliation for the community’s failure to pay the terrorists’ extortion fees.
It was gathered that the Yobe State government is planning a mass burial for the victims of the attack.
On Sunday, September 1, Dungus Abdulkarim, the Yobe police spokesperson, reported that the attackers looted and set fire to shops and houses in Mafa.
He said that the gunmen killed an undisclosed number of people and also distributed fliers with Arabic writing.
