Terrorists struck again in New Kalli village, Borgu Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger on Sunday, January 4th, torching a police border outpost.
The attack, which occurred around 10:30 p.m., came just a day after terrorists set fire to Kasuwan Daji market in the same LGA, killing 30 people and abducting several others.
Residents said the terrorists, who arrived on motorcycles, engaged officers in a fierce gun battle before setting the outpost and officers’ accommodation ablaze.
Farm produce belonging to villagers was also set on fire during the raid.
The disaster officer of Borgu LGA, Musa Saidu, said relevant security agencies had been alerted and an assessment of the damage was ongoing.
The Niger state police command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that the security outpost got engulfed in fire during a gun battle between the police and the terrorists.
“On January 4th, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m., terrorists attacked the police border patrol nipping point located at Kalli village, via Borgu LGA.
“The hoodlums were engaged in a fierce gun battle and were repelled by the police team.
“However, the security post was engulfed in fire during the exchange,” Abiodun said.
He added that calm had since been restored in the area, while reinforcement had been deployed to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
