The Nation Newspaper’s Associate Editor Olatunji Ololade has been shortlisted for the 2020 Festivo Journalism Awards.
Ololade’ story “21st Century slaves,” which exposes how Nigerian ladies are sold into notorious modern sex slave cartels in Lebanon,Ivory Coast and Mali came under the outstanding Investigative story category.
According to the organisers,35 entries from 21 countries were shortlisted and selected out of four categories.
Another Nigerian journalist,Fisayo Soyombo, was also shortlisted for his undercover investigation on the criminal justice system in Nigeria Police stations.
Others include Kelechukwu Iruoma and Ruth Olurounbi, whose joint entry on oil spill pollution in the Niger Delta, published on TheCable, was shortlisted under the “excellence in environmental journalism” category.
The award organisers said it awards three winners in each of the categories a joint cash prize of CHF130,000, “the biggest prize in the history of international journalism.
“It’s been hard work because this award is a sign that the world is quite bad and there is a lot to report and that Journalism plays an important role”,says Teresa Careras,and FJA Council Member.
Ololade,a four- time winner of the Nigerian Media Merits Award(NMA) and winner of the Diamond Award for Media Excellence is a multiple award winning journalist and columnist with The Nation Newspaper in Nigeria.
The Fetisov Journalism Awards aims to promote universal human values such as honesty, justice, courage and nobility through the example of outstanding journalists from all over the world as their dedicated service and commitment contribute to changing the world for the better.
