'Thread gently before it becomes too late,' Dele Momodu tells Wike

Former presidential aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has urged Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state to thread gently before it becomes too late.

The remark is coming amid internal wrangling between the Rivers state governor, and the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Atiku, according to The Vanguard.

Momodu, in a statement, on Thursday, August 11, said, “I have watched Wike in recent months with trepidation. I’m scared about his inability to comprehend the country called Nigeria.

“I have studied the biography of Chief Obafemi Awolowo. I was an insider in the June 12, 1993, crisis, and a veritable witness to the tribulations of my great mentor, Chief M.K.O Abiola.

“I am sure Wike must have seen how his predecessor, Dr. Peter Odili, was stopped in his tracks in 2007.

“Wike is certainly one of Nigeria’s best-performing governors, if not the best. Personally, I’m very proud of his uncommon achievements.

“Wike should remember that one must not destroy the bridge that helped him cross the river.

“Even if you no longer need the bridge, what about your friends and family?

“He needs to thread gently before it becomes too late.

“I hope that Wike would kill this excessive and perpetual anger in no time because it is getting out of hand. I know most people around him will keep quiet for fear of losing their friendship, but someone must be able to tell him the truth.

“My appeal to Wike is for him to apply the brakes, before it is too late,” he added.

Recall that Wike on Thursday, August 11, sued the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, the Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over the conduct of the presidential primary of the party that was held was in Abuja on May 28 and May 29, 2022.

Wike has been at loggerheads with Atiku and Tambuwal since his defeat in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary.

He had lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allowing Tambuwal to canvass votes for Atiku after he had already been allowed to speak earlier at the convention.

After the party’s primary, Atiku was advised to pick Wike as his running mate. However, the former vice-president decided to nominate Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate, a move that further deepened the crisis in the party.

Wike and his clique of supporters have reportedly demanded the resignation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, as a condition for them to campaign for Atiku.

They argued that the all top positions in the party are being occupied by northerners and Ayu, who is from the North-Central must resign as a concession to the South.

However, Ayu has maintained that he would only resign after Atiku emerges the winner of the presidential election in 2023.
