Unknown gunmen on Friday evening, November 5, opened fire on passersby at Neokeisima junction Umulogho in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, killing three on the spot.
The shooting which took place around 7.50 pm, caused pandemonium as residents and passersby scampered for safety.
An eyewitness said the assailants immediately zoomed to Umuahia in Abia State in the car while the victims were soaked with blood.
Another eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said the gunmen adorned in black regalia, were moving on a convoy to an unknown destination when they suddenly stopped and attacked the community.
He said: “Our community is a peaceful one. While we were just discussing about political issues, they pulled up in the community, and started attacking people. They killed two men and a woman”.
“Our community has been thrown into mourning this evening. It is even more worrisome that the police and other security agencies did not show up while it lasted for over 30 minutes.
”We are less than 4 kilometers away from the Police Division, but as I speak to you, there is yet to be any security presence in the area,” he lamented.
According to Daily Post, police spokesperson for the State, CSP Michael Abattam confirmed the incident, saying three persons were killed by the unknown gunmen.
