Suspected hoodlums on Sunday assaulted and publicly humiliated the Chief Executive Officer of Hosamudia Farm, Don Pedro Obaseki, in Benin City, Edo State, stripping him naked during the attack.
A video that surfaced online showed the incident occurring at Uwa Primary School, where Obaseki, it was learned, had gone to play football before he was confronted and attacked.
Obaseki, who is a cousin to former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, was later taken by the assailants to the Oba of Benin’s Palace, where he was forced to kneel at the palace gate.
The attackers, it was gathered, informed palace guards that they had apprehended an Oghion, described as an enemy of the Oba.
Some palace chiefs subsequently addressed the group in the Bini language, explaining that the Oba was preparing to attend a thanksgiving service at the Holy Arousa Cathedral to mark the conclusion of the Igue festival.
One of the chiefs said, “Today is Thanksgiving Day at the Holy Arousa. We don’t want any trouble. If there is anybody that counts himself as an enemy of the Oba, allow him and see how he will end up.”
Despite resistance from the suspected thugs, the palace chiefs eventually took Obaseki into the palace premises.
