President Bola Tinubu has appointed 57 year old Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

This was revealed via a statement by the President’s special adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Tuesday, March 4.

He noted that Ogunjimi’s appointment follows a thorough selection process.

Onanuga stated Shamsedeen’s appointment, which was approved on Tuesday, March 4, will take effect on Friday, March 7, coinciding with the retirement of the current Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madein.

He mentioned that Ogunjimi, was initially named as Madein’s successor last December.

Onanuga revealed that the selection committee subsequently chose him after a highly competitive and merit-based process involving Directors of Accounts within the Federal Civil Service.

He stated that the selection process consisted of three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.

Onanuga also emphasized that this rigorous process reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering transparency, excellence, and competence in vital public service roles.

Ogunjimi earned his Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), in 1990, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.

He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

Onanuga further stated that the President congratulates Ogunjimi on his appointment and encouraged him to perform his duties with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to Nigeria’s service.
