President Bola Tinubu has approved a two-year extension of tenure for the surveyor-general of the federation, AbudulGaniyu Adebomehin.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, October 22, by the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension is intended to strengthen ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s geospatial data systems and national land administration.
The renewed tenure, which takes effect from January 5, 2026, follows the recent transfer of the office of the surveyor-general of the federation to the presidency, a move that brings geospatial intelligence and national surveying operations under the direct supervision of the executive arm.
With the approval, Adebomehin will now remain in office until January 2028.
“The president expects Adebomehin to consolidate the reforms within the next two years, focusing on national land management and administration, highways and abutting land infrastructure coordination, reclamation and erosion control programmes, and other related matters of strategic national importance,” Onanuga said.
Adebomehin was appointed the surveyor-general of the federation by the late president Muhammadu Buhari, effective January 5, 2022.
