President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Professor Ayo Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPPS, for a final four-year term.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the President’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that the renewal takes immediate effect.

Omotayo was first appointed to lead the policy think tank in November 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, with the senate ratifying the appointment in February 2022.

An academic specialising in environmental sustainability, Omotayo earned his doctorate in Geography from the University of Ibadan, where he studied between 1980 and 1990.

He began his academic career at Lagos State University in 1985 and advanced steadily through the ranks, becoming a senior lecturer in 1992 at the age of 30.

During his time at Lagos State University, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017 and later headed the institution’s Centre for Planning before his appointment to NIPSS in 2021.
