President Bola Tinubu on Thursday evening held separate closed-door discussions with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa in Abuja amid ongoing political realignments ahead of 2027 elections.
Sources at the State House confirmed that the two governors arrived independently, with Mutfwang making his way to the Villa earlier than Makinde.
The meetings took place amid ongoing political manoeuvring, as major political actors across the country intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde, who governs Oyo State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, remains one of the few PDP governors yet to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, despite sustained political pressure and recent defections within the opposition.
The Oyo governor is also widely regarded as a potential presidential contender and is believed to be positioning himself for the PDP’s presidential ticket in 2027.
Mutfwang, in contrast, recently defected from the PDP to the APC, aligning himself with the ruling party in a move that has reshaped Plateau State’s political landscape.
Thursday’s engagement was his first publicly known meeting with President Tinubu since his defection.
In recent months, President Tinubu has continued to engage state governors across party lines as part of broader consultations on governance and national political developments.
