President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a high-powered Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to manage internal disputes within the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the party begins early groundwork for the 2027 general elections.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The committee was formally inaugurated in Lagos on Wednesday, with Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, appointed as chairman. Former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, will serve as the committee’s member-secretary.
The panel is made up of serving governors, ministers, and other influential figures within the ruling party, reflecting a broad-based approach to addressing internal party challenges.
Members include Senator Adamu Aliero; governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta.
Also appointed are Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani; Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle; and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust placed in the committee, pledging that members would discharge their duties with commitment and accountability.
Buni said, “The committee will engage in strategic engagements and consultations to develop an all-encompassing, productive and result-oriented strategy that will stand the test of time. We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with a renewed hope.
“Similarly, the committee will consider proactive measures, solutions, and the potential threats in our conflict resolution approach.”
He further cautioned committee members against allowing personal ambitions to undermine the broader objectives and unity of the party.
The committee’s inauguration comes shortly after President Tinubu appealed for cohesion within the APC at the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
