President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, May 31, met with the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, at the state house.
This development comes barely 24 hours after Tinubu directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to vacate the Ikoyi office of the anti-graft commission in Lagos state.
Bawa, who arrived at the villa on Wednesday afternoon, was ushered into the president’s office complex.
Although the purpose of the meeting is not yet known, it may not be unconnected to the recent disagreement between the EFCC and the DSS.
Recall that the president, on Tuesday, May 30, directed the DSS to immediately vacate the Ikoyi office of the EFCC in Lagos.
Tinubu said that if there were issues between the “two important agencies of government”, they would be resolved amicably.
This was made known in a statement issued by the media aide to the president, Tunde Rahman.
Rahman noted that, “The president gave the directive after reports that DSS officials stormed the EFCC office located on Awolowo road, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, May 30, was brought to his attention.”
It is pertinent to note that officials of DSS prevented personnel of the EFCC in Lagos from accessing their office in the Ikoyi region of the state.
Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesperson, while reacting to the incident, said that, “The leadership of EFCC has reached out to us for a final resolution of issues surrounding the property under reference.
“While the service has accepted the commission’s entreaties and certain concessions, sections of the media are advised to apply restraint in their reportage of the matter in order to avoid instigating any rancours between the two agencies.”
