President Bola Tinubu will be embarking on a state visit to China by September to attend the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Co-operation, FOCAC.
The Ninth FOCAC is expected to be held in Beijing, the Chinese capital from September 4 to 6.
FOCAC summit convenes every three years, alternating between China and Africa. The only other African summit involving external partners that meets with similar frequency is the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, TICAD, which has also held eight sessions since its inception. The Ninth FOCAC will feature a slightly different structure from previous summits, with thematic committees co-chaired by China and an African nation.
The theme for the 2024 summit is “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future”.
Leaders from FOCAC’s African member countries will participate in the summit by invitation from the forum. Additionally, representatives from relevant African regional organizations and international bodies will take part in various forum events.
