President Bola Tinubu is expected to arrive back in Nigeria on Monday following his official visits to France and the United Kingdom, UK.
The update was shared on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, through a post on his X account.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will return home today,” he said.
President Tinubu left Nigeria for Paris, France, on April 2 for what was described as a short working visit.
According to Onanuga, the President intended to use his time abroad to review the progress of his administration at the midterm point and evaluate major achievements so far.
“He will also use the retreat to review the progress of ongoing reforms and engage in strategic planning ahead of his administration’s second anniversary.
“This period of reflection will inform plans to deepen ongoing reforms and accelerate national development priorities in the coming year.”
Onanuga also revealed that during his stay abroad, President Tinubu would stay actively involved in the affairs of state, maintaining constant communication with his team and overseeing governance remotely. He added that the President was expected to return to Nigeria in roughly two weeks.
However, after the President’s trip extended to the two-week mark amid growing concerns over insecurity at home, opposition figures began to voice criticism. In response, the Presidency issued a statement on April 17, assuring Nigerians that President Tinubu remained actively engaged in managing the country’s affairs, despite being in Europe.
Onanuga reaffirmed that the President’s absence was only temporary and remained within the earlier stated timeframe of about a fortnight.
“His return to Abuja and the resumption of duties at Aso Villa will follow the conclusion of the Easter holiday,” the statement added.
The Presidency also acknowledged the concerns expressed by Nigerians, emphasizing that President Tinubu’s dedication to his responsibilities remains steadfast. It assured the public that the administration continues to operate efficiently under his leadership, even in his absence.
