Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a soldier and four suspected drug traffickers during an intelligence-led operation in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected drug traffickers operating from the Congo-Russia area, a location believed to be notorious for the sale and distribution of illicit substances.
Troops launched the raid at about 5:00 p.m. after placing the area under surveillance and confirming reports of ongoing drug-related activities.
The operation resulted in the arrest of a soldier alongside four other suspects believed to be involved in the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs within the community.
The suspects were apprehended without resistance and have since been taken into custody for further interrogation.
Preliminary investigations are expected to determine the role played by each suspect, particularly the serving soldier, and establish whether the group is linked to a wider drug trafficking network operating within Plateau State and neighbouring communities.
Intelligence gathered during the operation is being analysed to identify other suspected collaborators and uncover additional locations used for the storage and distribution of illicit substances.
They noted that the raid forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation Enduring Peace to dismantle criminal networks whose activities contribute to insecurity, violent crime and other social vices across Plateau State.
The Nigerian army said investigations are continuing, while efforts have been intensified to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected drug trafficking syndicate.
