Troops of Operation Hadin Kai on Sunday, August 23, arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of supplying logistics to terrorist fighters in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Alhaji, was arrested at about 9:30am during a checkpoint operation at Mandaragirau.
Alhaji used his cargo motorcycle, with registration number BBU-514VC, to transport supplies to terrorist fighters and evacuate their casualties from operational areas.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama said the arrest followed credible intelligence on suspected suppliers and sympathisers operating within the area.
Security personnel had been monitoring activities linked to individuals suspected of providing logistical support to terrorist groups in the region.
The suspect was also linked to support activities following a recent attack on troops, although further investigations are expected to establish the full extent of his involvement.
Following his arrest, Alhaji was handed over to the Army Provost Group for further investigation and necessary action.
The cargo motorcycle used by the suspect is currently being kept by the 162 Amphibious Battalion as part of the exhibits recovered in connection with the operation.
The military is expected to question the suspect to obtain further information on the logistics network, including the identity of other individuals involved in supplying or assisting terrorist fighters operating in the area.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt the supply and support networks that enable terrorist groups to sustain their operations across the North-East.
Military operations in the region have continued to focus on identifying individuals and routes used to transport food, equipment and other supplies to terrorist fighters.
Security forces have also intensified checkpoint operations, surveillance and intelligence gathering around areas considered vulnerable to terrorist movements and logistics activities.
The military said the security situation in the area remained calm but unpredictable, while troops maintained good morale and fighting efficiency.
Troops are expected to sustain operations in the area and continue efforts to identify and dismantle networks providing logistical and other forms of support to terrorist groups.
