Troops of Operation Hadin Kai on Friday, July 31, foiled a terrorist abduction attempt and rescued 31 civilians along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu local government area of Borno state after engaging fleeing Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in a gun battle.
The Joint Task Force (north east), Operation Hadin Kai, disclosed this in a statement signed by its acting military information Officer, Capt. Mohammed Goni, saying the operation was carried out by troops of the 135 special forces Battalion, Dutsen Kura.
According to the statement, troops detected the terrorists through real-time surveillance at about 3:45 p.m. as they intercepted four civilian vehicles and abducted their occupants.
Goni said the battalion immediately deployed a Quick Response Force, which pursued the terrorists towards the Mangari–Dora area.
He said the troops engaged the insurgents with sustained fire, forcing them to abandon the 31 abducted civilians and the four vehicles before fleeing into the surrounding bush.
The troops also recovered motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists during the operation.
According to Goni, all 31 civilians were rescued unharmed, while the four vehicles were recovered intact.
He added that troops subsequently dominated the area and carried out further clearance operations to prevent the terrorists from regrouping, with no further contact recorded.
The rescued civilians and recovered vehicles were later escorted to Buratai, where the victims reclaimed their vehicles and continued their journey.
Goni said the successful operation underscored the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in protecting civilians and disrupting terrorist activities.
He added that Operation Hadin Kai would sustain aggressive operations to eliminate terrorist remnants and secure communities and major routes across the north-east.
