Troops attached to the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed six suspected terrorists and freed a kidnapped minor during a series of coordinated clearance operations in the Sububu Forest, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, who said the raids formed part of intensified military action against armed groups threatening rural settlements in the North-West.
“The offensive was aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring peace to Zamfara State. Our troops displayed exceptional bravery and tactical efficiency in neutralising the threats encountered”, the statement partly read.
According to Adewusi, the operation commenced with a raid on Indulumu village, where troops engaged insurgents, killing two of them and recovering an AK-47 rifle.
He said the Strike Force subsequently advanced to Ruduno village, where four more terrorists were neutralised. Items recovered during the encounter included another AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, while two motorcycles believed to be used for movement and logistics were destroyed.
The troops later pushed deeper into the Sububu Forest, where they rescued a kidnapped underage girl identified as Halira Ibrahim.
“The rescue underscores our unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable citizens and combating kidnapping in the region”, the statement added.
Adewusi further said several terrorist camps and support facilities located in Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga and Kukatara were demolished during the operation, significantly degrading the operational capacity of the armed groups.
Security experts note that the Sububu Forest has long been a major hideout for criminal gangs involved in kidnapping, cattle rustling and violent attacks across Zamfara State and adjoining areas.
The latest operation is part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle insurgent strongholds, curb banditry and restore normalcy to communities affected by years of insecurity in the North-West.
