Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed a suspected bandit connected to a recent attack on illegal miners in Plateau State, recovering weapons and ammunition during a targeted raid on his hideout.
The operation was conducted by soldiers of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army operating under the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.
The raid was carried out on Thursday, January 8, at the Yolan Gboka–Yama Da Lahdi axis of Plateau State, following intelligence reports linking the suspect to the December 16, 2025 attack on illegal miners in Tosho community, Fann District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
According to military sources, the troops encountered armed resistance after making contact with the bandits, resulting in a gun battle.
“One of the bandits was neutralised during the exchange of fire and was later identified as Sadiq Isah, while others escaped,” the post said.
Following the encounter, troops secured the area and conducted a search of the hideout, where they recovered two AK-47 rifles and 162 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The recovered arms and ammunition have been taken into military custody, while follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and forestall further attacks in the area.
