Troops of the north east joint task force under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on Sunday, March 1st, neutralized ten Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and arrested two logistics suppliers for the group in Borno state.
This follows the successful repulsion of coordinated attacks by terrorists, which began on February 28, on Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram.
A large number of ISWAP terrorists launched a heavy attack on FOB Mayanti on February 28, and despite intense fire, the troops held their positions.
Reinforcements routed the attackers, killing five terrorists and recovering three PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, two RPG-7 tubes, four AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles, three RPG bombs, and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.
Tragically, one officer lost his life during the engagement.
They also attempted a simultaneous attack on FOB Gajigana on March 1st, but troops successfully maintained full control of the base, repelling the terrorists without equipment loss or casualties among soldiers.
In the early hours of March 1st, another group of terrorists armed with RPGs and drones attempted to overrun FOB Gajiram.
Supported by air assets, troops repelled the attack and neutralized three terrorists.
Items recovered include four AK-47 rifles, five anti-tank bombs, three improvised mortar bombs, an armed drone, six fully loaded 7.62mm NATO magazines, barbed wire cutters, and poisoned arrows.
One wounded soldier was promptly airlifted by Nigerian army aviation for medical treatment.
Troops of sector two also engaged terrorists at Kayawa village, forcing them to retreat and abandon three motorcycles, five bicycles, and a tricycle.
Troops also destroyed identified life-support structures, arrested two logistics suppliers, and recovered drugs and medical consumables used for treating wounded terrorists.
During an ambush around Bulturam corner and Dadingel in Gujba local government area, troops neutralized two terrorists and seized two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, a bicycle, and other various items.
