Troops of eighth division of the Nigerian army have neutralized 11 terrorists and recovered weapons during a coordinated ambush operation in Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto state.
The operation, carried out by the sector two joint task force under Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), disrupted a planned attack on Tara village.
According to the army, the strike team acted on credible intelligence indicating that terrorists were moving through a known route near Kurawa village.
Soldiers laid an ambush and engaged the criminals in an intense gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of 11 terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
Eight AK-47 rifles, five additional magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered at the scene.
The army said the raid prevented what could have been another deadly attack on rural communities in the Sabon Birni corridor, an area repeatedly targeted by terrorist groups.
The division reaffirmed its commitment to combat terrorism, protecting the lives and properties of citizens in Sokoto state.
