Troops of the Nigerian army operating under north west joint task force Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) on Monday, March 9th, neutralized three Lakurawa terrorists in Kadam forest, Tangaza local government area of Sokoto state.

The operation involved troops of the chief of army staff special intervention battalion seven working alongside the eighth division strike team, who acted on intelligence reports that over 100 terrorists had gathered in the forest.

Intelligence indicated that the group intended to coordinate attacks and kidnappings in surrounding communities and transport abducted victims to their strongholds.

According to the eighth division spokesperson, Olaniyi Osoba, troops moved swiftly to intercept the group and established contact with the terrorists at about midday, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire.

During the confrontation, the terrorist group attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre in an effort to outmanoeuvre the soldiers.

However, the troops responded with superior firepower, neutralizing three terrorists and forcing others to flee with gunshot wounds while maintaining tactical dominance throughout the operation.

A follow-up search of the forest area led to the recovery of one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three magazines, two communication radios, three motorcycles, and a mobile phone.

Osoba said additional clearance operations are ongoing in the general area to track down fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping.
