Troops of the north east joint task force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), on Sunday, February 1st, neutralized a Boko Haram commander, Abu Khalid, alongside ten others in Komala general area of Konduga local government area, Borno state.
The operation was carried out during a late-night offensive by troops of sector one, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), after intelligence reports indicated the presence of terrorists in the area.
The joint task force spokesperson, Sani Uba, said Abu Khalid was the deputy leader of Boko Haram in Sambisa forest, where he was involved in coordinating attacks and overseeing logistics for the group.
The raid came less than 24 hours after troops eliminated another Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) commander, identified as Julaibib, in the Gujba axis of Timbuktu triangle, as military operations against terrorist enclaves continue across the north east.
Items recovered from the scene included five AK-47 rifles, ammunition magazines, bicycles, food supplies, and medical items believed to have been used by the terrorists.
Uba said no casualty was recorded among the troops during the operation, adding that clearance operations are ongoing in parts of the Sambisa forest, Mandara mountains, and other identified hideouts.
The Nigerian army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining counter-insurgency operations until remaining terrorist elements are dismantled and stability is restored in the region.
