Troops of the Nigerian army on Wednesday, March 18, neutralized over 60 Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Mallam Fatori, Abadam local government area of Borno state.
The attack occurred around 12:50 a.m., when terrorists advanced on foot from Duguri general area, supported by multiple armed drones, in a bid to overrun the 68 battalion’s main defensive area.
However, vigilant troops detected the movement and swiftly engaged the terrorists with overwhelming firepower, supported by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in a joint operation, neutralizing over 60 terrorists, including some notorious commanders.
The intense exchange forced the remaining terrorists to retreat towards Arege general area after suffering heavy casualties.
Following the failed attack, troops launched follow-up operations to track down fleeing terrorists, while Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms were deployed to monitor their escape routes and prevent regrouping.
The Nigerian army reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, assuring citizens of continued efforts to safeguard lives and property across the country.
